When the home page is displayed on device with 'dark' background, I notice that the clickable image we added about the award needs a transparent background.

Here is a replacement for the clickable image on the home page for the article about the Central Banking award -- this one has a transparent background.

This should be fixed, however I am unsure as to how you were able to view the page in dark mode as chrome did not let me view it in dark mode. Let me know if the issue persists, and could you let me know what browser you were using?

For some reason when I use my phone to go to our website via a link in email, it automatically has the black background.

So I went into chrome and saw a flag that can force apps to have dark mode. I edited the image a bit so that it looks better on both the white and black background.

It seems as through a chrome flag to force darkmode on your device is enabled.
Since the chrome feature is still in development, I can't make it look perfect, however if we actively implement a dark mode on the website I might be able to make it look better.
For now I made some edits to the PNG for better readability and aesthetic.
